Rebecca's Highland Pony

In February 2004 with the cots of lessons at the local riding school appearing to be high. It was decided to see what it would cost to purchase and own ones own pony. Rebecca my then 11 year old daughter was tasked with making up an excel spread sheet with all the costs associated with owning and ruining ones own Pony. it took about three weeks of talking to friends she had made at the the local riding school, local horse hard ware shops, doing some searching on the internet and reading local papers.

In late march we had the money in place to go out and look around. By the end of March 2004, we had found what is sometimes referred to as a bomb proof mount - meaning it was reasonably stable for a young rider. A deposit was paid for a thoroughbred highland pony. This was "Marnonwells Stroma" her Highland Pony Society registered name. But in fact called "Piggy" by all who new here due to her snorting like a pig at times. Age at time of purchase, 11 years and was 12 on the 12th June 2004. Make her the same as my daughter now. Piggy is a Grey Dun, Eel Stripe, with Black Hoofs. Is 11.2 hands high and freeze marked.

Now were where we going to keep this new addition to the Hall family of Aberdeen. So a start was made by the recommendation of a few reasonable liveries in the west of Aberdeen to visit. So started mine and Rebecca's introduction to the horse world. And some shocks where to start from day one.  Its surprising how yard owners/mangers do not seem to have much time for young riders some times. And we visited yards where the owners completely ignored Rebecca and spoke as if she was not present. Or took no account of the fact it was her pony and talked down to her as if she was not really involved. Eventually we met the owner of Easter Mains Livery. Who involved Rebecca in all aspects of showing us round. And so we had found Piggy a new home with what is called grass livery.

It was decided then that Piggy would be Rebecca's twelfth birthday present from dad on the 9th April 2004. Also family gave money instead of presents on her birthday and this went towards the ponies purchase, tack and other initial outlay costs. So on the 8th of April Piggy was delivered to her new home at Easter Mains Livery near Westhill Aberdeenshire.
